culver city build project update

This is a picture of the build site on the 4000 block of Globe Ave. in Culver City. Habitat LA will build 10 homes (6 individual houses and 4 duplex units). The homes will be two stories with three bedrooms and two bathrooms (approximately 1,300 square feet). Each home will have its own parking spaces. Five of the homes have been sponsored by faith-based coalitions such as our Westside Church Coalition.
Habitat LA has been fundraising to cover the cost of the other five homes and is in the process of securing a construction loan. While we had expected to begin building in September, the projected start date has been pushed back to November 2017. However, we acknowledge that with all construction projects we will need to be flexible as the timeline may change once again.

Westside church coalition T-shirts for sale
The Westside Church Coalition is ordering t-shirts to wear to show unity among the churches during our build days and at future celebration events. The shirts are available at an advance order price of $15. If you would like to order a t-shirt, please stop by the Habitat table at Venice FMC this Sunday, October 1 or send an email to habitat@venicechurch.org. The sizes available are S through XXX-L and will be distributed by the end of October.
westside church coalition and patience house
Venice Free Methodist Church has partnered with the following churches to form the Westside Church Coalition and to sponsor one of the 10 Habitat homes:
- Westlight Community Church
- Marina Christian Fellowship
- West Los Angeles United Methodist Church
- Westwood United Methodist Church
- First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica
- Culver-Palms United Methodist Church
- SOMA Culver City
- The Church in Ocean Park
The Coalition named the house it is sponsoring "Patience House" due to the long time it has taken for the project to reach this stage. However, the delays have turned into opportunities for dialogue, fundraising, and deepening relationships among the participating churches.
Mulvilhill Family
Habitat LA chose the Mulvihill Family to be the new homeowners of Patience House. Kaoru and her sons, Ryan, Mason, Trent and Kendall are active at Westlight Community Church and are familiar faces to many at Venice FMC. We look forward to working side-by-side with them to build their new home.
